  • 12 Apr 2017 - UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Michael Beary today met separately with the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Saad Hariri in Beirut.  In both meetings, the UNIFIL head thanked the Lebanese leaders for their continued support to UNIFIL in the fulfilment of its mandate in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution 1701 (2006), while noting that Lebanon’s continued commitment to the UN resolution is critical.

    23 Mar 2017 - UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Michael Beary today paid his first visit to the newly appointed Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), General Joseph Aoun, in Beirut. During the meeting, the two Commanders discussed a wide range of issues concerning the implementation of UNIFIL’s mandate along the Blue Line and in south Lebanon, while underscoring an enhanced UNIFIL-LAF cooperation.

    20 Mar 2017 - Today, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) marked the 39th anniversary of its establishment with a ceremony at its Headquarters in Naqoura highlighting the Mission’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for the local population in southern Lebanon.

    07 Mar 2017 - The Minister of Defense of Lebanon, Yaacoub Sarraf, today visited the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqoura, south Lebanon, and met with the UNIFIL Head of Mission of Force Commander, Major General Michael Beary. This is the first visit of Minister Sarraf to the UNIFIL headquarters since his appointment to the post in December 2016. 
  • 03 Mar 2017 - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) today donated a number of UN assets, including vehicles and information technology equipment, to the General Directorate of the General Security of Lebanon.  The donation is in line with the existing cooperation between UNIFIL and the Lebanese Government’s military and other security institutions, as mandated by the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which forms the core of UNIFIL’s mandate.
  • 13 Feb 2017 - The Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNIFIL, Major General Michael Beary, today chaired a regular tripartite meeting with senior officials from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at the UN position at Ras Al Naqoura.

    08 Feb 2017 - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) today carried out a joint exercise combining armoured assets, machine gun and small arms live fire in an area one kilometre south of the UNIFIL Headquarters in Naqoura, southern Lebanon.

    08 Feb 2017 - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) today donated a number of UN-owned vehicles and other assets worth US$ 658,000 to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the LAF Intelligence at a ceremony held at the UN Mission’s headquarters in south Lebanon.
  • 03 Feb 2017 - This morning, two UNIFIL patrols in the general area of Al Mansouri-Majda Zun (Sector West) were obstructed by groups of aggressive men who attempted to cause physical harm to the peacekeepers and UN assets.
