    25 Aug 2016 - The Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNIFIL, Major-General Michael Beary, today chaired his first tripartite meeting with senior officials from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at the UN position at Ras Al Naqoura.

    12 Aug 2016 - The Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major-General Michael Beary, today met with the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, in Beirut. This was Major-General Beary’s first meeting with the Speaker after he assumed command of UNIFIL on 19 July.

    29 Jul 2016 - UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major-General Michael Beary met today with the Director General of General Security Major-General Abbas Ibrahim in Beirut. This was Major-General Beary’s first meeting with the Director General after he assumed command of UNIFIL on 19 July. Major-General Abbas Ibrahim warmly welcomed UNIFIL Force Commander “back to Lebanon” recalling Major-General Beary’s previous tours of duty with UNIFIL (in 1982, 1989 and 1994).

    19 Jul 2016 - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) today underwent a transfer of command from Major-General Luciano Portolano (Italy) to Major-General Michael Beary (Ireland).

    French Foreign Minister visits UNIFIL HQ
    11 Jul 2016 - The French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, Jean-Marc Ayrault, visited the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqoura, south Lebanon, today. UNIFIL’s Deputy Head of Mission Imran Riza received Mr. Ayrault at the UNIFIL base. The Minister was accompanied by a number of senior French officials including Ambassador Emmanuel Bonne.
  • Major-General Portolano chairs last tripartite meeting as UNIFIL Head of Mission
    23 Jun 2016 - The Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major-General Luciano Portolano, today chaired a regular tripartite meeting with senior officials from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at the UN position at Ras Al Naqoura. It was the last meeting Major-General Portolano chaired since he took charge of UNIFIL in July 2014 and before his departure from the UN mission next month.
