24 Oct 2017 - On UN Day, UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Michael Beary today highlighted the importance of working together to achieve a lasting peace in south Lebanon. Speaking at an event marking the 72nd United Nations Day at the UN Mission’s headquarters in Naqoura, Major General Beary said UNIFIL looks forward to a time when it can hand over authority for the area south of the Litani River to the sovereign Government of Lebanon. -

03 Oct 2017 - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) today held a ceremony to commemorate the International Day of Peace at its headquarters in Naqoura. Peacekeepers representing the 41 national contingents in UNIFIL were joined at the event by representatives of the local authorities, religious leaders, Lebanese armed and security forces and members of the international community. -

31 Aug 2017 - The United Nations Security Council yesterday voted unanimously to renew UNIFIL’s mandate under Security Council resolution 1701, expressing a strong commitment to the existing mandate. UNIFIL will continue to work to fulfill the mandate to its fullest in order to preserve the stability and calm in its area of operations in south Lebanon, which has already lasted for an unprecedented 11 years.
