    05 Apr 2016 - The Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major-General Luciano Portolano, chaired a regular tripartite meeting with senior officials from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at the UN position at Ras Al Naqoura today.

    27 Jan 2016 - UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major-General Luciano Portolano today called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Samir Moqbel and LAF Commander Jean Kahwaji in separate meetings in Beirut. Major-General Portolano briefed Minister Moqbel and General Kahwaji on UNIFIL’s view of the situation in southern Lebanon and expressed his sincere appreciation for the crucial role played by the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in ensuring stability in south Lebanon.
  • UNIFIL Press Statement on today’s incident along the Blue Line
    04 Jan 2016 - Late this afternoon, UNIFIL was informed that two IDF vehicles were attacked south of the Blue Line in the general area of Sheeba Farms. The IDF returned artillery fire in the general area of Kafr Chouba, Abbasiva and Bastara in UNIFIL's area of operations. No casualties were reported to UNIFIL.

    12 Sep 2012 - Naqoura, Lebanon – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today visited the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) where he was received by UNIFIL Force Commander Major-General Alberto Asarta Cuevas. He also undertook a brief tour by helicopter of the Line of Withdrawal (Blue Line).

    12 Dec 2011 - (Press statement - LAF Commander visits UNIFIL) UNIFIL Force Commander Major-General Alberto Asarta Cuevas today received the Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Jean Kahwagi at UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura. Their meeting focused on the situation in southern Lebanon in view of the recent incidents and discussed ways to better coordinate the joint efforts of UNIFIL and the LAF in order to further enhance security control in the area.
