On Monday, 10 June the Lebanese Minister of Information Mr. Walid Daouk accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry of Information Mr. Hassan Falha and the Minister's Advisor Mr. Andre Kassas paid a visit to UNIFIL Sector East.

UNIFIL Force Commander Major-General Paolo Serra welcomed Minister Daouk at UN Position 4-28 in the Ghajar area and briefed him on the situation in UNIFIL's area of operations, which remains calm. Major-General Serra emphasized the strong commitment from both the parties to the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1701 and the importance that the Mission attaches to the strong bonds between UNIFIL peacekeepers and the population.

"I am very happy to welcome today the Minister of Information Mr. Walid Daouk and the Director General of the Ministry of Information Mr. Hassan Falha to UNIFIL Sector East" said Major-General Serra and he added "Minister Daouk's second visit to UNIFIL shows once again the deep commitment of the Lebanese authorities to the Mission's mandate and to the work carried out by our peacekeepers in close coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF)"

During the visit Minister Daouk met with Brigadier-General Fernando Lopez Del Pozo, Sector East Commander and also visited the headquarters of UNIFIL's Indian contingent. The Minister of Information toured the area of operations where he was briefed about the activities carried out by UNIFIL on the ground.

"This visit emphasises once again our good relations with the Government of Lebanon and the strong support we are receiving from the Ministry of Information in our continuous efforts to inform the people, both within Lebanon and outside, about our role and the activities carried out by UNIFIL."
