UNIFIL National Staff Union donates to Lebanese Red Cross

The Lebanese Red Cross Society received a donation from the UNIFIL National staff Union (NSU), at a ceremony organised at UNIFIL's Headquarters in Naquora.

The donation, totalling to 2,527,000 Lebanese pounds, was presented to the Red Cross's Bint Jbeil district, Rmeich Centre's First Aid Team. It was raised through a Karaoke event organised by the staff union and was attended by UNIFIL's national and international staff members.

UNIFIL Director of Mission Support, Mr. Girish Sinha welcoming Red Cross representatives at the hand-over ceremony at UNIFIL headquarters, Naqoura.

The donation is an appreciation of the work of the organisation and its contribution to society.

UNIFIL Director of Mission Support, Mr. Girish Sinha, representatives of the Red Cross and UNIFIL staff union and staff from different sections of the mission witnessed the hand-over ceremony.

Mr. Khaled Bazzi, the President of Bint Jbeil Red Cross Committee expressed his deep appreciation for the contribution.
"As an organisation, we depend on donations and contributions from well-wishers because we have no source of income." He noted that any assistance provided to the Red Cross enables the organisation to perform its duties fully and respond to people's needs and emergencies.

"UNIFIL has always offered us a helping hand, and today is one of those days. We are touched with the National Staff Union's initiative", he said.

Mr. Sinha emphasised that UNIFIL is grateful for the Red Cross's contribution to the community and will continue supporting the partnership between them in the future.

Mr. ÙAbass Awala, vice president of the NSU expressed the union's support for the Red Cross which is always the first to offer assistance to the local community, thus saluting their efforts in helping the local population.

A discussion was held between Mr. Daniel Jreis, Head of the First Aid Teams, South District and Dr. Paul Florin, Chief Medical Officer on potential partnership that could be developed between UNIFIL's Medical Team and the First Aid Teams in the South on disaster preparedness and response as well as evacuation plans and mechanisms.
