UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major-General Paolo Serra met today with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) Commander General Jean Kahwagi and with General Director of General Security Major-General Abbas Ibrahim.

Major General Serra highlighted the effective cooperation between UNIFIL and the LAF both at the strategic and tactical levels and thanked General Jean Kahwagi for the strong commitment of the LAF in maintaining security and stability in UNIFIL area of operation.

Following the meeting, the Force Commander said: “I have expressed my most sincere appreciation for the deep dedication of the LAF in maintaining a high level of coordination with UNIFIL despite the additional challenges the Lebanese Army has been faced with in recent months.”

During his encounters Major-General Serra thanked LAF Commander General Kahwagi and General Director of General Security Major-General Ibrahim for their continued support for UNIFIL’s deployment and mission, emphasizing that UNIFIL remains focused on its mandated tasks under UN Security Council resolution 1701.
