Ghanaian peacekeepers offer training to LAF personnel

UNIFIL’s Ghanaian peacekeepers provided a training on map reading, global positioning system and and first aid to members of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in their main base in Al-Qawzah, south-western Lebanon, this week.

The two-day training, on 17 and 18 December, saw 11 LAF personnel training with Ghanaian peacekeepers.

The training sought to enhance mutual understanding, common knowledge, confidence and cohesion between UNIFIL peacekeepers and the LAF. It also aimed to enhance joint tactical capabilities, which can contribute to better coordination between the two forces while carrying out operational activities.

One of the features of the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which forms the core of UNIFIL’s mandate, is to assist the LAF in building its capacity so that it exercises its authority throughout the Mission’s area of operation in south Lebanon.
