The “Special Need Centre” in the village of Suq Al Khan in South Lebanon benefited from a donation by UNIFIL Spanish Peacekeepers.
The $13,200 donation funded a project to install an elevator for the center to enable the safe movement of children with special needs from the ground to the top floor.

On 17 July 2017, UNIFIL’s Sector East Commander Brigadier General Venancio Aguado de Diego inaugurated the project in the presence of distinguished guests from the area, village Mayor, Director of the center, Ms. Leena Abu Karnib, municipality officials, Lebanese Armed Forces representatives, other local authorities and UNIFIL peacekeepers.

The Director of the center Ms. Abu Karnib expressed her gratitude for the generous donation and praised the collaboration between UNIFIL personnel and the local community.

In his speech, Brigadier General Aguado stressed on the good ties that connect the local residents and UNIFIL, seeing that the project will directly benefit the children with special needs who require the educational and medical support.

UNIFIL contingents develop these kind of projects in order to address some of the most pressing needs of the local population and to support local authorities.
