This evening, at approximately 5:20 pm, a heavy exchange of fire erupted between Lebanon and Israel in the vicinity of Alma Shaab, Ayta Ash Shab', Al Dihaira, El Adeysse and Houla.
At around 5:30 pm, UNIFIL detected rocket firing from south of Tyre.
We continue to be in contact with authorities on both sides of the Blue Line to de-escalate this very dangerous situation.
We urge everyone to exercise restraint at this critical time.
This afternoon, UNIFIL peacekeepers detected explosions near Al-Boustan in southwest Lebanon.
Early this morning, UNIFIL peacekeepers detected several rockets fired from southeast Lebanon toward Israeli-occupied territory in the general area of Kafr Chouba, and artillery fire from Israel to Lebanon in response.
The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 2695 (2023) today, extending UNIFIL’s peacekeeping mandate for another year.
Today, Friday, July 28, in the early afternoon, a tragic car accident took place in the vicinity of Al Duhayra in southern Lebanon involving a UNIFIL peacekeeping vehicle and a civilian car, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles.
Shortly after 8:00 a.m., UNIFIL peacekeepers detected explosions near Al-Majidiya. We could not confirm the origin or cause of the explosions at the time, but sent peacekeepers to investigate as the sounds were consistent with a possible rocket launch.
Early this morning, the IDF informed UNIFIL that they will begin a response to yesterday’s rocket launches.
This afternoon there were multiple rocket launches from southern Lebanon toward Israel.
The IDF informed UNIFIL that it had activated its Iron Dome defense system in response.
