Indian peacekeepers organize awareness session on breast cancer

UNIFIL’s Indian peacekeepers organized a training session with the aim of raising awareness about preventing breast cancer among the women of Shab’a in south-eastern Lebanon earlier this week.

The training session, conducted on 18 March in coordination with local authorities and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), offered an opportunity to the local women to approach UNIFIL’s female peacekeepers, who are experts on the issue, and get their questions answered.

UNIFIL doctors focused the session, attended by 35 women, on the prevention and early detection of breast cancer.

As there are no female doctor posted with the Indian Battalion, resources from other UNIFIL battalions operating in the Mission’s eastern Sector were pooled in to conduct the training.

Between their core peacekeeping duties, UNIFIL peacekeepers carry out a range of small-scale activities at the request of and directly benefiting the local communities.
