Young students visit Sector West HQ

About 60 students from a school in Saida visited UNIFIL’s Sector West Headquarters in Shama, south Lebanon, today to learn about the crucial work of the UN Peacekeeping mission in furthering peace in its area of operation and along the Blue Line.

The students, between 14 and 16 years old, from Saint Elie High School of Darbessim in Saida had the opportunity to interact with UNIFIL peacekeepers from multiple nationalities.

The interaction was useful in raising awareness about the important work of the mission, acting alongside the Lebanese Armed Forces and host communities since 1978. During their interaction, the peacekeepers highlighted the growing prosperity as a result of the nearly 13 years of peace in south Lebanon.

Between their core peacekeeping duties, UNIFIL peacekeepers regularly carry out various activities – both in support of the local communities and informing them about their work.
