As part of its ongoing support to local communities, which play an important role in maintaining stability in South Lebanon, UNIFIL has distributed 807 hygiene kits to families in six municipalities across its area of operations, benefiting approximately 4,035 residents.
The project was initially designed to help families who stayed in their villages during the conflict, many of them because they had no other option. With the gradual return of residents to their homes, the assistance is now also reaching returnee families facing the greatest need.
The distribution covered the municipalities of Ma’arkah, Tayr Felsay, Toura, Hallousiyah, Yanuh and Jinata. Each kit contains essential hygiene and cleaning supplies sufficient for a family of five for about one month, helping improve health conditions and reduce the risk of disease.
Highlighting UNIFIL's continued commitment to the people of southern Lebanon, UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Diodato Abagnara said: “At a time when many communities across South Lebanon continue to face uncertainty and the daily impact of ongoing hostilities, UNIFIL remains committed to standing alongside the local population and supporting efforts that preserve dignity and resilience.”
The contents of the kits were adapted following consultations with local women from the beneficiary communities.
Major General Abagnara noted that “while based on standard kits used by international donors, they were adjusted after consulting local women beneficiaries, who know their own needs best.”
UNIFIL also recognized the efforts of municipalities and local authorities that continue to serve their communities despite limited resources and difficult conditions.
Highlighting the broader value of the initiative, Major General Abagnara said: “Above all, it is an investment in the mutual trust that UNIFIL and the people of South Lebanon have built together over many years.”
“Trust remains the foundation of everything we want to achieve together, stability, security, and a better future for the next generations,” he added.
Through projects such as this, UNIFIL continues to support local communities and reinforce stability in South Lebanon. In line with its mandate under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, the Mission works closely with the Lebanese Armed Forces, local authorities and residents to help create the conditions for lasting security and stability in the South.
