UNIFIL peacekeepers join hands with LAF and Municipality in cleaning historic fort

Working hand-in-hand with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) personnel and local municipality, UNIFIL’s Nepalese peacekeepers carried out the campaign of cleaning the historic Shaqra-Dubiyye Fort in south-eastern Lebanon last week.

The one-day event saw 54 Nepalese peacekeepers joining 20 personnel from the LAF’s Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) unit and 10 from the Shaqra Municipality in cleaning the Fort.

The Mayor of Shaqra, Ali Saleh, thanked UNIFIL for the support in conservation of the historical site.

Between their peacekeeping operational duties, UNIFIL peacekeepers carry out a number of activities in the communities they serve in order to preserve and strengthen their ties.

Since the opening of the LAF’s new regional CIMIC centre in south Lebanon in May, there has been an uptick in the number of joint CIMIC activities with UNIFIL.
