UNIFIL introduces its Arabic-language website, 24 November 2009

Naqoura, Lebanon – The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) today introduced its Arabic-language website, launched in August 2009, in a press briefing held at Tyre, south Lebanon. UNIFIL was the first UN Peacekeeping Mission to launch a fully Arabic version of its website that can be accessed at http://unifil.unmissions.org. The Mission's English-language website was launched earlier in March this year.

The website carries a wide range of information on the Mission in the local Arabic language. Its subjects cover UNIFIL's history, mandate and activities as well as the latest news and press releases. It also provides links to the Mission's multimedia productions, including the Web version of the UNIFIL magazine 'Al Janoub', a photo gallery and a full selection of UNIFIL-produced videos.

The website provides timely access for the Arabic-speaking public and the media in Lebanon and the region to information, press releases, statements, videos and radio programs about UNIFIL in the local language.

"UNIFIL has tirelessly worked to make sure that all the information already available in English could also be reflected in our Arabic website. Keeping the population and the media informed about all of our activities has been one of UNIFIL's major priorities," Director of Political and Civil Affairs Milos Strugar said.

The website also invites expressions of interest in business opportunities with UNIFIL and participation in tenders. It also offers an overview of employment opportunities within UNIFIL and the wider United Nations system.

A range of United Nations documents related to UNIFIL can be accessed on the website. In addition, the site includes links to other United Nations partners and their activities in the region.
