At the request of the municipality of Alma Shaab in southwestern Lebanon, UNIFIL peacekeepers facilitated the movement of dozens of civilians to safety this morning.

The peacekeepers helped about 80 civilians move out of UNIFIL’s area of operations in accordance with its protection of civilians mandate and in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The operation took about two and a half hours.

Since the latest round of escalation, UNIFIL has supported transportation of dozens of civilians – including children, the elderly and persons with disabilities – to safety from several south Lebanese villages.

The mission has also facilitated dozens of humanitarian missions of the Lebanese Red Cross daily.

UNIFIL peacekeepers remain in positions across their area of operation in the south and along the Blue Line, monitoring and reporting a growing number of violations of the Security Council Resolution 1701.

The mission has urged the parties to de-escalate and return to the full cessation of hostilities.
