261 - سلام من الجنوب - أندريا تيننتي يتحدث عن تجديد ولاية اليونيفيل

في 31 آب 2023، اعتمد مجلس الأمن الدولي القرار 2695، الذي مدد ولاية حفظ السلام لقوة الأمم المتحدة المؤقتة في لبنان (اليونيفيل) لمدة عام آخر.

منذ العام 78، يتواجد حفظة السلام التابعون للأمم المتحدة بشكل مستمر في جنوب لبنان، حيث تركّز هدفهم الأساسي على تأكيد انسحاب القوات الإسرائيلية، واستعادة السلام والأمن الدوليين، ومساعدة الحكومة اللبنانية على ضمان عودة سلطتها الفعلية في المنطقة. ولم يتغير هذا التفويض، بل تم تعزيزه بعد حرب عام 2006 من خلال القرار 1701، حيث كلف هذا القرار بعثة اليونيفيل بمراقبة وقف الأعمال العدائية ودعم القوات المسلحة اللبنانية والحكومة. في هذه الحلقة من "سلام من الجنوب"، سنحصل على شرح أفضل لما يعنيه القرار من الناطق الرسمي باسم اليونيفيل السيد أندريا تيننتي.

259 - Salam from the South - Returning Lands Free of Deadly Mines

The farmers in Meiss Al Jabal village in south Lebanon received 10 plots of land cleared of the deadly threat of mines and other explosive ordinances after two years of humanitarian demining works done in the village. “Crime Scene Investigation and Forensic Scene” training was organized in in UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura. The training course brought together members of the Internal Security Forces Investigative Unit and UNIFIL Carabinieri or Italian military police operating within UNIFIL. UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Aroldo Lázaro says, “The 75th anniversary of UN Peacekeeping operations is an occasion to pay tribute to all the peacekeepers, women and men, who over the past 75 years have served for peace throughout the world”.

UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army recently conducted a joint exercise, called Steel Storm, combining armoured vehicles and live fire. Joint exercises are a key part of UNIFIL’s mandate under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 to support the Lebanese Armed Forces and build their capacity to accomplish their own tasks under the resolution.

UNIFIL is in south Lebanon to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and part of its mandate is to support the Lebanese Armed Forces operating in the area. Recently, an operations building, as well as a briefing and conference room for Army Intelligence, was refurbished within the main Lebanese Armed Forces barracks in Tyre with the support of UNIFIL’s Finnish Battalion.

UNIFIL’s main mission is to maintain peace and stability along the Blue Line and throughout its area of operations, according to Security Council resolution 1701. However, where it has the capacity and upon request from the local authorities, UNIFIL can extend a helping hand in other areas. Peacekeepers occasionally jump into action to help the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Civil Defense in fighting fires, especially bushfires, in the south.

Over the past two years, UNIFIL’s area of operations in south Lebanon has witnessed several events and developments. In this episode of “Salam from the South”, UNIFIL spokesperson Mr. Andrea Tenenti will shed light on the most topical issues related to the mission.

The unprecedented socio-economic crisis has affected south Lebanon as well as the whole country very badly. The health care system has not been spared. For that reason, UNIFIL military doctors are extending a helping hand to the local community, and the recent visit of the medical team of the Italian contingent to Ma’arake village, and the services they provided is just one example of it.

Since 2007, UNIFIL has regularly implemented projects in local communities to help make it easier to accomplish its mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as to improve the living conditions of a population currently suffering from the economic crisis. Recently, UNIFIL’s Force Commander Reserve in collaboration with the municipality of Qana, rehabilitated the historical spring there to provide the people with clean, drinkable water.

Recently the Lebanese Armed Forces new “Model Regiment” Headquarters was inaugurated in Srebbine, south Lebanon. The project funded by the European Union will house the basic components of the Model Regiment, a new infantry regiment to be deployed alongside UNIFIL in the mission’s area of operations.
