‘Blue Quiron’ drill to assess reaction of Sector East assets

UNIFIL’s Sector East Headquarters organized the exercise “Blue Quiron” in its area of responsibility in south-eastern Lebanon on Friday to evaluate the reaction of its components during emergency situations requiring casualty evacuation.

The exercise sought to train the Sector chain of command as well as the subordinate assets to properly react during emergencies.

For the purpose of exercise a situation was simulated in which a UN vehicle suffered a collision with a truck and crashed with three UN troops onboard, resulting in minor-to-serious injuries. The exercise took into account procedures to follow, flow of information, communication capability and reaction time. It also involved a helicopter evacuation.

The whole exercise was executed seamlessly, with excellent coordination among all actors involved.
