Work underway to repair vital road near UNIFIL HQs

The UNIFIL Italian contingent is working this week to repair section of a vital road close to the UN mission’s headquarters in Naqoura that was heavily damaged during recent hostilities.

Acting at the request of local mayors and working in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces, engineering units of the Italian contingent commenced repairs on approximately a 1-kilometre stretch of the Naqoura–Alma Ash Shab road.

These repairs will not only enable the safe passage of both light and heavy vehicles but also ensure freedom of movement for UNIFIL peacekeepers.

Since the cessation of hostilities understanding of last November, various UNIFIL units have undertaken initiatives to repair roads and clear hundreds of roadblocks across the mission’s area of operations in southern Lebanon.

Recently, Italian peacekeepers also completed maintenance on a section of a vital road near the village of Marwahin.
