UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander, Major General Paolo Serra, condemns in the strongest terms possible the criminal bombings at two mosques in the Northern city of Tripoli, targeting innocent civilians.

We condemn the unacceptable cowardly acts of violence on families gathered in peace and prayers. UNIFIL joins the Lebanese people during this time of profound grief to mourn the senseless loss of life.

"On behalf of the entire UNIFIL fraternity, I wish to extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to the relatives of the victims and the Lebanese people and wish speedy recovery to those injured.

UNIFIL stands by to offer any form of support to the government and the people of Lebanon. We call for calm and restraint and hope that the perpetrators of this criminal act will be identified and brought to justice as soon as possible.
