UNIFIL ‘happy hour’ for orphan children

UNIFIL organized a “happy hour” yesterday for orphan children from the peacekeeping mission’s area of operation in south Lebanon in a school in Tyre.

The entertainment-humanitarian gathering – organized in cooperation with a local non-governmental organization (NGO), “Students and Youth House,” and UNIFIL’s strategic partner, the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) – aimed to strengthen the relationship between the peacekeeping mission and the host communities.

About 60 children aged between 9 and 14 years attended the event at Tyros High School. Among other activities, the daylong event saw the children drawing on the theme of “peace.” About 70 drawings were later put on display for visitors from the area.

During the event, the NGO “Students and Youth House” delivered some furniture for the children while the McDonald’s provided lunch. The hosts, Tyros School, conducted two-hour animation class for the orphans.

During the event, UNIFIL peacekeepers interacted with the children as well as the visitors explaining about the crucial work of UNIFIL in coordination with the LAF in south Lebanon. UNIFIL’s outreach peacekeepers handed various gadgets to the children.
