Peacekeepers organize Christmas events to the delight of children

UNIFIL peacekeepers from France and Spain organized separate Christmas events for the children of the host communities in south Lebanon this week.

On 21 December, peacekeepers from the French-led Force Commander’s Reserve (FCR) organized Christmas Fair for children between 4 and 12 years old at the Tibnin Cultural Centre. They prepared stands with traditional games to the delight of the children.

Especially the darts and rings throwing stand, skittles, inflatable structure and make-up stand made the children happy.

At the end of the fair, all the children gathered around the UNIFIL peacekeepers to sing together "Petit papa Noël" (“Small Santa”). Santa Claus then appeared, cheered by all the children who were able to receive their gifts.

Sergeant Adeline is very proud to have participated in this fair.

“Our commitment here in Lebanon is also to bring our support to the people and ahead of the Christmas, we are lucky to be able to live moments like this,” she said. “The Christmas party is always more beautiful when it is shared around you and more particularly with children.”

Likewise, on 23 December, UNIFIL Spanish peacekeepers – led by Sector East Commander Brigadier General Marcos Llago Navarro – participated in an event at Sagrado Corazon School in Marjayoun where Christmas gifts were distributed to schoolchildren.

Between their core peacekeeping duties, UNIFIL peacekeepers regularly carry out various activities in support of the host communities, which – together with their operational activities – have helped keep calm in the Mission’s area of operation for over 13 years.
