Italian UNIFIL Peacekeepers deliver essentials to Lebanese Red Cross and Tyre Crisis Unit

UNIFIL Italian peacekeepers have donated essential medicines and powdered milk to the Lebanese Red Cross and the crisis unit of Tyre municipality. These supplies will be distributed to displaced people in southern Lebanon.

The medicines include antibiotics, pain relievers, and anti-inflammatories to treat respiratory, gastrointestinal, and urinary tract infections. The powdered milk will help meet the nutritional needs of infants and children, preventing malnutrition and illness.

The donation, which was coordinated with the Italian Defense Ministry’s Joint Operations Command and the Pharmaceutical Bank Onlus, is aimed at supporting those facing hardships due to ongoing tensions. The Lebanese Red Cross and Tyre's crisis unit will manage the distribution of these supplies to affected communities.

General Stefano Messina, commander of the Italian contingent, highlighted how important this effort is to help displaced people in need. He noted that these supplies are essential for the health and nutrition of children and vulnerable people in the area.

The UN estimates that more than one million people have been displaced in Lebanon since the conflict began on October 7, 2023.
