  • 285 - Salam from the South – UNIFIL Support to Tyre Water Bureau

    In the wake of the exchanges of fire across the Blue Line early October last year, UNIFIL has been supporting – within its means and capacity – local communities in south Lebanon with their urgent needs. The mission and its peacekeepers have been actively assisting local communities with medical, dental, veterinary, and educational support, among other assistance, while ensuring humanitarian access to the most affected. With nearly 100,000 people living close to the Blue Line displaced, the city of Tyre has been hosting thousands of the displaced, putting an additional strain, in particular, on its water distribution system.

  • 284 - Salam from the South – UNIFIL Medical Support to Local Community 

    As the exchanges of fire affecting south Lebanon run into the tenth month forcing thousands to flee to safer areas, UNIFIL peacekeepers have been helping the displaced people as well as those remaining in their villages with their most pressing needs. Medical treatment and donations have been at the center of UNIFIL assistance to the local population.

  • 278 - Salam from the South – Peacekeeping in a Crisis: Italian Peacekeepers

    For the past nine months, the south of Lebanon has seen continuous exchanges of fire across the Blue Line, with the current level of exchanges now higher than they were in the beginning. Destruction, death, injury, and large-scale population relocation are the reality on the ground. Since October, in addition to performing its mandated tasks, UNIFIL and its national contingents have put an extra effort to assist the local communities in south Lebanon with medical, dental, veterinary, and educational support, as well as other kinds of assistance, to alleviate the hardships of the people who remained in their villages during these exceptionally challenging times.

  • 277 - Salam from the South – Civil Defense Firefighters Train with French Peacekeepers

    As part of UNIFIL support to the state entities in south Lebanon, particularly during these exceptionally challenging times, recently the French peacekeepers conducted a joint training with Civil Defense firefighters of Tyre. UNIFIL’s cooperation with the Lebanese Civil Defense, that carries out firefighting, search and rescue activities across the country, dates back to 2008 and has encompassed a plethora of support interventions ranging from equipping of the existing Civil Defense facilities to facilitation of joint exercises and training courses.
