UNIFIL-supported sports facility opened in Blida

UNIFIL’s Sector East Commander Brigadier General Rafael Colomer Martinez Del Peral last week opened a sports facility in Blida, south-eastern Lebanon, for which equipment were provided by UNIFIL.

Brig. Gen. Peral opened the facility in the presence of Blida Mayor Hasan Hijazi and UNIFIL’s Nepalese Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Rajendra Pant, among other dignitaries, UNIFIL officials and representatives of the Lebanese Armed Forces.

UNIFIL donated $15,000 for the project from its Quick Impact Project, which seeks to contribute towards stability in the UNIFIL area of operation through small-scale projects at the request for local communities.

While UNIFIL donation was used to procure equipment for gymnasium and martial arts, the local Municipality provided the land and the building complex.

The Mayor of Blida Municipality, Mr. Hijazi, expressed his gratitude to UNIFIL peacekeepers for their continuous support to the Municipality, which is within the areas of responsibility of Nepalese peacekeepers who monitored the timely completion of the project.

Between their peacekeeping duties, UNIFIL peacekeepers regularly carry out various small-scale activities with the host communities, which are key to maintaining the calm in their area of operations.
