UNIFIL Force Commander meets Prime Minister Hariri

UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major-General Michael Beary met today with Prime Minister Saad Hariri in Beirut.

Major-General Beary praised the Prime Minister for his role in recent international conferences in Europe, including the Rome Conference with the aim of further strengthening the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and maintaining Lebanon’s stability.  

He also complemented LAF on their efforts in keeping the overall calm in UNIFIL’s area of operations between the Litani river and the Blue Line.   

The UNIFIL Force Commander and the Prime Minister discussed the situation in southern Lebanon and UNIFIL’s work – in close coordination with LAF - to help maintain the stability in its area of operations, with a special focus on the Blue Line.

UNIFIL’s Head of Mission also briefed the Prime Minister on the Israeli construction works south of the Blue Line and expressed appreciation for both sides in their commitment to maintaining the overall calm near the Blue Line.

In addition, the Force Commander thanked the Prime Minister for his continued support to the Mission and his government’s commitment to the implementation of UN Resolution 1701.
