UNIFIL donates ambulance, two vehicles to General Security
UNIFIL today donated three vehicles, including an ambulance and motor vehicle spare parts to the General Directorate of the General Security. The donation is in line with the existing cooperation between UNIFIL and the Lebanese Government’s military and other security institutions, as mandated by the UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
“This is not the first batch of vehicles presented by UNIFIL to the Directorate of the General Security; similar donations were made in 2012 and 2013,” said the Security General Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Fawzi Shamoun, adding: “A number of computers were handed over to the same security institution last year.”
Lt-Col Shamoun said UNIFIL’s donation “upholds Lebanon’s security institutions to extend their authority over the entire Lebanese territory”.
“UNIFIL also contributes to backing the IT (information technology) of the General Security,” Lt-Col Shamoun added.
The Director of Mission Support, Mr. Wolfgang Weiszegger, lauded the “excellent collaboration” between UNIFIL and the Lebanese authorities, expressing his happiness about the sustenance of “the traditions of donations.”
Mr Weiszegger said UNIFIL was constantly looking forward to further opportunities to boost the Lebanese authorities’ capacities within the means of UNIFIL.
Through these donations, UNIFIL continues to work with the Lebanese Government and its entities to achieve the successful implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
