UNIFIL delivers computer sets to the Lebanese Army, 29 March 2011
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) today delivered 54 sets of computers and accessories to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) at a ceremony held at UNIFIL's Headquarters in Naqoura.
Addressing the ceremony, UNIFIL Force Commander Major-General Alberto Asarta Cuevas stressed UNIFIL's commitment to support the LAF in achieving the successful implementation of the mandate articulated in Security Council resolution 1701.
Major-General Asarta said: "Our activities at the service of peace in southern Lebanon could not be implemented without the cooperation of the Lebanese army, which has demonstrated -- time and again -- its professionalism and outstanding commitment to resolution 1701, working in close partnership with UNIFIL troops."
"In the period ahead, UNIFIL will continue to work to further enhance the capacity of the Lebanese army," he added.
Today's hand over of equipment is part of UNIFIL's continued efforts to support the LAF. In the past year UNIFIL has donated 63 vehicles and 24 complete computer sets to the LAF.
UNIFIL constantly campaigns with the international community for supporting the LAF with the technical and material resources it requires to fulfill its vital responsibilities in line with resolution 1701.
Today's ceremony was attended by LAF Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics Brigadier-General Louis Hanna, LAF Commander in south Litani area Brigadier-General Sadek Tlais, UNIFIL Director of Mission Support Girish Sinha, and UN Chief of Regional Information and Communications Technology Services Anthony O'Mullane.
