UNIFIL’s Italian contingent organizes ‘Fire Observation’ course with LAF

A detachment of UNIFIL’s Italian Battalion carried out a “Fire Observation” course with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in Shamaa, South Lebanon, last week.

The daylong course, conducted on 22 September by an Italian maneuver unit, involved both theory lessons and practical exercises on fire observation and fire correction techniques. Practical exercises were conducted in a simulated battlefield.

The Italian initiative is one of a number of courses conducted by UNIFIL’s Italian force in order to strengthen LAF capabilities in the UN Mission’s area of operation in south Lebanon.

The Italian maneuver unit, operating in UNIFIL’s Sector West, works with other UNIFIL peacekeepers and the LAF in implementing fulfilling the Mission’s mandate in accordance with Security Council Resolution 1701.
