The Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major-General Paolo Serra, today chaired a regular tripartite meeting with senior officers from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at the UN Position at Ras Al Naqoura crossing.

The meeting discussed the implementation of relevant provisions of UN Security Council resolution 1701 under UNIFIL’s mandate, including the situation along the Blue Line, air and ground violations, the on-going visible marking of the Blue Line and the issue of withdrawal of Israeli forces from northern Ghajar.

Major-General Serra hailed the calm along the Blue Line and commended the parties for their cooperation with UNIFIL while urging them to strengthen the liaison and coordination arrangement.

Following the meeting, UNIFIL Force Commander said: “I am very pleased with today’s constructive discussions. I am grateful for the parties’ positive and constructive engagement in the Blue Line marking process. I am confident that, we can come up with mutually beneficial arrangements which will significantly contribute to the consolidation of security and stability along the Blue Line. This is evidence of the parties continued commitment to the cessation of hostilities and to the stability along the Blue Line.”
