The transfer of authority of UNIFIL’s Armenian contingent consisting more than 30 peacekeepers took place at the UN Mission’s Sector West Headquarters in Shama last evening.

After about six months, Captain Hayk Grigoryan handed over the command of his company to Captain Artem Zakharbekyan.

High-level dignitaries including Armenia’s ambassador and military attaché in Lebanon, UNIFIL’s Sector West Commander and representatives of the Lebanese Armed Forces attended the ceremony.

The Armenian contingent has been operating under the UNIFIL Sector West Command since 2014 and performs force protection tasks at the Shama base.
