UNIFIL peacekeepers in south-eastern Lebanon donated yesterday a number of firefighting equipment to the Lebanese Civil Defense, a public civil emergency service that carries out firefighting, search and rescue activities across the country.

The huge explosion that rocked Beirut Port on Tuesday evening (4 August) resulted in several UNIFIL naval peacekeepers from Bangladesh being injured, some of them seriously. The ship was docked at the Port as part of the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force.

In early April this year, as cases of COVID-19 Coronavirus spiked world over, the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres suspended all rotations of uniformed peacekeeping personnel until 30 June 2020.
