Hundreds of schoolchildren, accompanied by their teachers, from UNIFIL’s area of operation in south Lebanon braced cold weather recently to gather at Tair Harfa Public School. They were there for a reason: to learn about road safety from UNIFIL peacekeepers.

UNIFIL Spanish contingent today hold a memorial ceremony in honour of 1st Corporal Francisco Javier Soria Toledo, a UNIFIL peacekeeper who lost his life in the line of duty in southern Lebanon, on 28 January 2015.

The patrol vehicle has just hit a landmine and the driver and three passengers are severely injured. Despite hostile fire, the first responders rescue the victims from the car and perform basic medical aid to save their colleagues' lives.
