Fijian Prime Minister visits UNIFIL HQ

As part of his visit to UNIFIL’s area of operation this week, Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama of the Republic of Fiji today visited the Mission’s headquarters in Naqoura and met with Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Stefano Del Col.

The discussions focused on the situation in the UNIFIL area of operation and the important contribution made by the Republic of Fiji in implementing the Mission’s mandate. 

Troops from the Fijian Armed Forces have served with UNIFIL since its establishment in 1978. During today’s meeting, Major General Del Col appreciated Fiji’s contribution in furthering peace in south Lebanon. 

While in south Lebanon, Prime Minister Bainimarama and his delegation also visited the Qana Memorial Site to pay tribute to its fallen peacekeepers.

He also met with the Fijian peacekeepers currently serving with UNIFIL in their main base south of At Tiri.

As one of UNIFIL’s 42 troop contributors, Republic of Fiji currently has 134 peacekeepers serving in south Lebanon.
