World Water Day: save our water resources every day
"We must use water wisely because water is important for us in order to live", this is what Molhem, a 7 years old student said explaining what he had learned on World Water Day, which was observed internationally on 22 March.
UNIFIL's Civil Affairs and UNIFIL Italian battalion, in cooperation and coordination with the municipality of Tyre, schools in the area, social centers, and Nestle in Lebanon organized an educational and recreational event on World Water Day at Beit al Mamlouk, in Tyre.
447 students from several public and private schools in Tyre, students from the Mossan Center for children with special needs, 16 amateur photographers and 35 instructors from Imam al-Sader Foundation participated at the event.
"This is the third year that we are celebrating and organizing water awareness campaigns in cooperation with UNIFIL during World Water Day," said Ms. Sarah Dsouki, Tyre municipality's coordinator for the event.
"The main aim of today's event is to teach and raise awareness on the importance of water in our lives, and the means to sustain and use justly this vital natural resource," said Civil Affairs officer Habib Aziz.
The young students enjoyed the different activities that were organized for them during the day and water awareness messages were strongly conveyed through these games.
Every year the World Water Day adopts a title, the theme of this year's World Water Day is "energy-water nexus."
This year, in his message for World Water Day, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon focused on the interdependence between the management of water and energy: "they interact with each other in ways that can help – or hinder – our efforts to build stable societies and lives of dignity for all."
