UNIFIL supports displaced families: Medical aid reaches Tyre

On October 29, 2024, UNIFIL delivered essential humanitarian aid to the Municipality of Tyre amid a challenging situation in south Lebanon. The donation included much-needed medical devices and medicines provided by two Italian donors, Banco Farmaceutico and the NGO Live to Love.

The handover took place at Tyre’s Disaster Management Unit (DMU) headquarters, and was attended by local officials, including the President of the Union of Municipalities of Tyre, Mr. Hassan Dbouk, and DMU Director Mr. Mhana Mortada. The medical supplies will help people who have been forced to flee their homes due to ongoing hostilities and are now sheltering in Tyre. The DMU currently provides refuge for over 140 internally displaced persons, or around 45 families.

This aid effort is part of UNIFIL’s ongoing commitment to supporting the people of south Lebanon, especially during these difficult times. Hostilities have impacted thousands of lives, more than 800,000 individuals have been displaced - 60% of whom are from areas where UNIFIL operates, according to the International Organization for Migration. UNIFIL remains focused on helping local communities access vital resources and essential services. Through partnerships with UN agencies and local and international organizations, UNIFIL aims to ease the challenges faced by civilians who continue to suffer.
