UNIFIL statement on military court conviction for attack on peacekeepers
UNIFIL welcomes a recent Lebanese Military Court verdict that has brought another individual guilty of an attack on peacekeepers to justice.
In July 2011, a UNIFIL convoy passing through the city of Saida was targeted with an Improvised Explosive Device. Three peacekeepers were seriously injured in the attack, and two others suffered minor injuries.
The 24 March verdict comes a few months after the same court convicted another individual for killing two peacekeepers in 1980.
Attacks on the men and women who serve for peace are serious and shocking. We are grateful to the Lebanese authorities for fulfilling their commitment to hold perpetrators of attacks on peacekeepers accountable for their crimes.
