UNIFIL intensifies night patrols along Blue Line
UNIFIL peacekeepers have recently intensified night patrols along the Blue Line, in coordination with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), building on the relative calm prevailing in the area.
The bolstered UNIFIL presence, including through temporary observation posts, improves monitoring of movements and activities in violation of resolution 1701.
“Through these actions, UNIFIL reaffirms its continued commitment to the safety and security of local communities, its support to the LAF, and its role in deterring illegal activities in accordance with the Security Council resolution 1701,” said the UNIFIL Chief of Staff, Major General Paul Sanzey.
Any unauthorized crossing of the Blue Line – by land or air – constitutes violation of Resolution 1701, which UNIFIL continues to report every day. The mission also maintains open communication channels with the parties, aimed at promoting stability and preventing escalation.
