"Safety Through my Eyes"

"As part of the global celebration of the anniversary of resolution 1325 on Women Peace and Security, the Union of Tyre Municipalities in conjunction with the Gender Thematic Working Group of South Lebanon, organised an 'Open Day' Event, "Safety Through my Eyes'.

The event was one of the global activities to take place providing women with a platform to address issues around women, peace and security in their community and present recommendations to senior UN officials.

Welcome remarks were made by the head of the Union of Tyre Municipalities, the Ministry of Social Affairs, UN Resident Coordinator and the UNIFIL Deputy Force Commander.

Women from the districts of Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun and Tyre highlighted that their safety included access to decision-making, equal access to resources, economic and environmental safety. The women called on both national and international organisations to recognize and appreciate their concerns in all consultations and decision-making.

The event closed with the head of the Union of Municipalities of Tyre presenting cameras to girls from the three districts who participated in the photo contest on Safety through their Eyes."
