Peacekeepers rebuild Burj Rahal school, helping over 200 children

UNIFIL peacekeepers from the Republic of Korea unveiled the newly rebuilt and renovated Burj Rahal public school today, following two weeks of work to repair heavy damage from the recent conflict.

The conflict had left about 300 square metres of windows and 40 window frames destroyed, making it difficult for the school’s more than 200 children to continue their studies.

Following requests from local authorities for its restoration, the Korean peacekeepers immediately stepped in to help.

The Commander of UNIFIL’s Korean peacekeepers, Colonel Yoo Joon-geun, said the restoration work was very important to provide a stable learning environment for the students.

“I sincerely hope that the children can now study in a safer and more peaceful environment,” said Colonel Yoo.

At the handover ceremony today, the UNIFIL peacekeepers also donated supplies to help the children in their studies, including stationery, and solar lanterns.

Over the next year, UNIFIL Korean peacekeepers plan to implement 12 projects directly benefitting local communities and the Lebanese Armed Forces.
