UNIFIL’s Korean Contingent got a new batch of peacekeepers this week, with the outgoing Commander Colonel Jin Chul Ho handing over the command of the Republic of Korea Battalion (ROKBATT) to Colonel Goo Seok Mo on Monday (27 August).
UNIFIL Sector East Commander Brigadier General Sánchez Martínez-Falero received the religious authorities from south-east Lebanon at the Sector Headquarters, the Miguel de Cervantes Base, in Ibl al-Saqi, yesterday.
As part of strengthening their bond with the host population, UNIFIL’s Korean peacekeepers hosted 27 representatives from the town of Tayr Dibbah, including its mayor, Hussein Saad, for a friendly football match in their main base near the south Lebanese town last week.

UNIFIL’s French-led Force Commander’s Reserve (FCR) got its new commander last week. UNIFIL Force Commander Major General Michael Beary inspected the 12 July transfer of authority from Colonel Olivier Baudet to Colonel Frederic Edel in the French peacekeepers’ main base in Deir Kifa.
Working hand-in-hand with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) personnel and local municipality, UNIFIL’s Nepalese peacekeepers carried out the campaign of cleaning the historic Shaqra-Dubiyye Fort in south-eastern Lebanon last week.
