Healing hands: How UNIFIL Korean peacekeepers helped local communities

Peacekeepers from the Republic of Korea have been a vital source of support for local communities, providing medical care to around 1,800 residents across five villages in Tyre, south Lebanon: Brughuliyah, Abbasiyah, Burj Rahal, Tayr Dibba, and Shabriha.

Over the past months, UNIFIL Korean peacekeepers have been visiting each village weekly, delivering essential medical care despite limited resources. They address common health issues such as muscle pain and eczema, as well as minor illnesses like gastritis, tonsillitis, and the common cold, helping about 20 patients each day.

Initially, the peacekeepers offered remote consultations and set up a temporary facility at their base. Now, they visit communities directly, providing follow-up care and ongoing support. This effort highlights their strong commitment to helping people.

Korean peacekeepers are set to expand their medical support with new mobile dental and veterinary services. This development underscores their ongoing dedication to the people of south Lebanon and enhances the positive impact they continue to make in the community.
