The President of the Republic of Austria, Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen, today visited the UNIFIL headquarters and received a briefing from the UN Peacekeeping Mission on its work to help further peace in south Lebanon.

With the onset of winter and icy weather in much of UNIFIL’s 1,060-square kilometre area of operation in south Lebanon, there is the usual seasonal drop in outdoor activities and visits by tourists to the scenic Tyre coastline.

To mark Universal Children's Day 2018, military and civilian peacekeepers from UNIFIL visited the Public School of Naqoura, near UNIFIL’s headquarters. An important aspect of this visit was to present “Mr. & Mrs. Blue Barrel” – a fun and interactive presentation about a serious topic.
As the sun set, UNIFIL peacekeepers, local officials and residents of south Lebanon flocked to the public square by Tyre harbour for a rich display of food, folklore and a show of strength in diversity.
