Nepalese peacekeepers assist Blida residents to prepare field for olive plantation
With the conclusion of the latest olive harvest season in south Lebanon, UNIFIL peacekeepers last week assisted residents of Blida Municipality by preparing the field for the next plantation of this precious fruit.
A team of 25 Nepalese peacekeepers, supported by bulldozers, cleared and levelled a 2,500-square-metre field, preparing it for olive tree plantation scheduled for early January 2026.
Through this initiative, UNIFIL peacekeepers contribute to environmental restoration and help the local community rebuild their livelihoods following the recent conflict.
The Mayor of Blida, Hasan Hijazi, and local residents expressed appreciation for the peacekeepers’ efforts, highlighting the positive impact of UNIFIL’s support on the ground.
During the last harvest season, from October to December, UNIFIL peacekeepers supported the Lebanese Armed Forces in providing security to farmers accessing land near the Blue Line to harvest, prune, transport and fertilize olives by conducting 76 missions.
