Inauguration of a water treatment system in Naqoura

The Municipality of Naqoura became the first one in UNIFIL's area of operations with a suitable water treatment system.

Thanks to a UNIFIL sponsored project (QIP), the sewage system of 230 houses in Naqoura has now been connected to the Mission's headquarter wastewater refinery. The cost of the project amounted to around $ 22,000.

UNIFIL Force Commander Major-General Paolo Serra addressed the inauguration ceremony at UNIFIL Headquarter in Naqoura. Present at the ceremony were MP Abdul-Majid Saleh, President of the Union of Tyre Municipalities Mr. Abdul-Mohsen al-Husseini and Tyre District Commissioner Mr. Mohamad Jaffal, along with several mayors, mukhtars, and UNIFIL officials.

Opening the event, Mayor Mahdi praised the role of UNIFIL, for contributing to the development of this area and preserving its environment.

Major-General Paolo Serra said that this project comes at the core of UNIFIL's concerns in terms of preserving the environment, assisting the local population and create environmental awareness in the area. He also stressed that UNIFIL will continue its work to maintain security and stability in its area of operations, in full cooperation with its strategic partner, the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).
