A day to remember

The first time was a complete success. Awareness was raised among school children on the importance of preserving water while having lots of fun on World Water Day.

And this year the need still holds to spread the same crucial information among young water users, even if the event itself took place sometime after World Water Day had passed.

Splashing water, sounds of laughter, and important lessons about water and its use, that's how UNIFIL's Civil Affairs Section, in coordination with the Italian Battalion, marked for the second year in a row, World Water Day along with the Tyre Municipality, Nestle Waters Lebanon and the participation of 400 young students from 5 different southern schools.

The children spent the day learning about the importance of water and the best ways to use it through Nestle's six-stage water games known as "Project Wet". This project aims to educate teachers on water related issues so they in return spread their newly gained knowledge among their students.

"This is our second participation and we are so happy to be here spreading awareness on water issues to young children" said Rania Chwayfaty, brand manager at Nestle.

Tyre's municipality's Vice President Mr.Salah Sabrawi applauded the aim of activities."Look at those kids; they are having so much fun while learning crucial and simple instructions that actually are applicable. Any of these young students will be extending his/her knowledge to their families" Mr. Sabrawi added.
