I had an excellent meeting with the President. His strong support for UNIFIL and commitment to the implementation of resolution 1701 has been evident, among other things, by the fact that he was the first Lebanese Head of State to visit UNIFIL.

The situation in UNIFIL's area of operations remains generally calm. UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army have intensified patrols and security control of the area following increased tensions in the region.
UNIFIL's position on northern Ghajar is very clear: Israel must withdraw from this area and its presence there is a clear and continuing violation of resolution 1701.
