Naqoura, Lebanon – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today visited the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) where he was received by UNIFIL Force Commander Major-General Alberto Asarta Cuevas.

"We have seen reports in the media suggesting that UNIFIL should be deployed along the Lebanese border with Syria. UNIFIL's deployment and functions have been mandated by the UN Security Council with the specific consent of the Government of Lebanon.

The United Nations Security Council, on the request of Lebanon, yesterday unanimously adopted resolution 2064 (2012), extending without any changes the mandate of the United Nations Interim Mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for one year, until 31 August 2013.
