Late on Friday afternoon in Suwwana village, south east Lebanon, the football coach calls his team together for a pre-match tactical discussion. A couple of players who are sitting on the sidelines pick up their prosthetic limbs and attach them before jogging over to the huddle.

The Lebanese Special Forces soldier calls his combat dog to heel. “Key” the dog who is already growling at the “suspicious” man across the park, obediently responds. The soldier and his dog closely watch as the man makes threatening gestures and shouts aggressively. The dog tugs on his lead.
