Peacekeepers support installation of streetlights in El Hebbariye

UNIFIL’s Force Commander’s Reserve (FCR) handed over a vital solar-powered streetlighting project to local authorities in the village of El Hebbariye, southeastern Lebanon, this week.

The project involved the installation of 250 solar-powered streetlights in the village, aiming to improve public lighting and safety while addressing local needs amid frequent power outages and limited electricity supply.

This initiative, funded by the mission’s French peacekeepers, underscores UNIFIL’s continued commitment to supporting local communities as they recover and rebuild following the recent conflict.

The initiative also aligns with UNIFIL’s broader efforts to promote environmental sustainability and the use of renewable energy sources.

Last year, UNIFIL units implemented 24 solar projects across their area of operations, benefiting thousands of residents. This year, in addition to the one in El Hebbariye, six other solar projects are currently underway.
